I’ve seen this sort of thing before; it is usually a slumlord and they want a person in there who won’t complain about their shitty property or know their basic rights. Which is really dumb because under Right to Rent* you can’t discriminate and the person who posted this has a free civil claim in the works if they want it, I helped someone through it a year ago and they got a fair bit of wonga of a scummy landlord.
*put in place to make sure landlords only rent to people legally allowed to be in the UK and, as a result, making it illegal to discriminate against anyone’s protected characteristic (nationality is included in this) with a confirmed ‘right to rent’.
I love this kind of thing. Easy £3000 compensation oi oi.

My money say it is because that landlord prefers someone who might not speak good English so there will be always a barrier with others, making them less prone to talk in general about their situation, has lower living standards or doesn’t know the legislation and what rights the tenant has.
Also, a combination of all of them or some of them.

We have a license for pets in belgium, you are basically born with it but if you abuse/torture animals it can be taken away. Maybe we should do the same with the right to own property (for rent, not your house ofc)
I am British and TBH, i am on the landlords side here.
They just spend all their time watching the traitors and painting the walls greige.
