New study: Global heating will shave at least $3 trillion every year from the world’s economy, and that’s probably on the low side. The old trope that climate action and economic growth are competing is dangerously wrong. Climate policy *is* economic policy.

  1. From Bloomberg:

“There’s this outdated comparison many politicians and even some climate-change advocates still use, which is to juxtapose climate action against economic growth, as if the two were opposing sides in a zero-sum game. In fact, like that old meme from *The Office*, they’re [the same picture](https://www.dailydot.com/memes/theyre-the-same-picture-meme/).

Three new studies this week add to a growing stack of evidence that climate policy is inseparable from economic policy. Keeping a lid on global heating will not only limit the trillions of dollars it extracts from growth but create new opportunities — something policymakers at the COP30 climate talks in Belem, Brazil, this week might want to keep in mind.”

  2. Very true! Climate policy = economic policy

    Also very wrong!

The *necessary* economic policy is one that does not suffer from PEGA (Perpetual Economic Growth Addiction). Even if we stop pumping out greenhouse gases, if we try to perpetually grow the economy we will still break Nature until Nature no longer supports industrial civilization.

You simply can not have perpetual economic growth on a finite planet.

  3. Only took 3 decades to switch this narrative. No duh it’s economic policy. Too little, too late. We’ve already sealed the deal for our future.
