  1. If their pensions are still uk taxed then they should get treatment here in my opinion

  2. Why are they relying on the NHS of your citizens of Nicaragua?

  3. I wish they would say it as it is, ‘retired abroad to Nicaragua’ means ‘migrated to Nicaragua’. Sorry for the position they’re in but they can’t ‘migrate’ back for free healthcare.

  4. Couple shocked by no longer being able to watch Netflix after cancelling service

  5. Ah the retire abroad types. The smug ones who goad you for still living in the UK and paying taxes. You cannot have your cake and eat it too

  6. The amount the NHS spends on non British born foreigners flying in for treatment who haven’t contributed fuck all is staggering; why not a person that has contributed most of their life and is British born.

Fuck me this country sucks balls.

They need to come in on a boat with no documentation, seek asylum and they’ll be alright. They’ll get the treatment and receive it quicker, too.

    Dire dire stuff.

  7. TLDR the NHS is a residence-based healthcare system.

and you wonder why its so bloody expensive to live in the UK. The older generations middle class will be less likely to sell their house to move to a better place abroad while being more affordable.

  8. It’s almost like people should do some research before they move to another country.

If only there was a resource they could use where you type in a question and it gives an answer…

  9. Surely if they arrived via a small boat then they’d be prioritised for any treatment and it’d be free?

  10. Time to move to a government backed insurance scheme as in Finland, say.

  11. It is a bit harsh but ever since they moved, they’ve not been paying current taxation, including VAT, which also funds the health service.

  12. Why would they even want to use the NHS? Most people who move abroad and use other countries healthcare realise how bad the NHS is.

  13. Has anyone commenting actual read the (clickbait) article? I couldn’t find any mention of them trying to get NHS treatment (and then moaning about the fact they can’t) – in fact a direct quote is “**Kim, a former equestrian, says despite the immense cost, they are much happier in Nicaragua and wouldn’t consider moving back ” as they say “**’The healthcare here is better than anywhere in the UK.” 🤷‍♂️

  14. They say they can’t access NHS treatment because they don’t have an address here, but they’ve spent £64,000 on treatment in Nicaragua. Couldn’t they have just used some of that money to temporarily rent a house back home? Genuine question, I don’t know anything about retirement visas etc. They only left last year, it’s not like they’ve been out of the country for 20 years.

  15. People complain when the NHS pays for people and complain when it doesn’t. Anyone who moves abroad should be well aware that the NHS is residency based. Whilst moving to a developing country can be wonderful, and much cheaper than the UK you do have to keep in mind these countries are cheaper because you have to be self reliant and healthcare is a big part of that. You can’t have your cake and eat it.

  16. Get used to that, because that’ll be coming to the UK itself soon enough. All thanks to the nastiest, stupidest person you know.

  17. So they won’t move back to the UK as everything in Nicaragua is better but want us to fund their treatment? As a UK pensioner who pays tax I find the hypocrisy staggering.

  18. Just pay some smugglers to get you half way across the channel. The UK will pick you up, set you up in a fancy hotel and pay for your treatment. Might need to get a bit of a tan first though

  19. Imagine moving to Nicaragua and not taking out private medical insurance tho

  20. How would the NHS even know. It’s not like you have to show you have been paying taxes to get looked at by the GP.

  21. Lmao. We treat any old twat that turns up.

    But not Brits living abroad

  22. “retired to Nicaragua” should tell you everything you need to know. It is a very poor country even by Latin American standards. Didn’t want to shell out the 50,000 for a beach front house in a nice place in Mexico so they probably omega cheaped out for a 25,000 place in Nicaragua.

  23. They’re saying they’re safer in Nicaragua and the health care is better there. If that’s true, it’s a pretty grim statement about the state of the UK and the NHS. I see they’re starting a GoFundMe for the medical costs, aka the American approach to medical expenses. Most unfortunate for them if he got diagnosed shortly after leaving the UK.
