November the 13th, 2025 – There were almost 10% less unemployed individuals across Croatia in October 2025 compared to the same period last year.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, according to the Croatian Employment Service (CES), at the end of October 2025, there were 77,825 individuals officially registered as unemployed. That represents a very encouraging decrease of 9.8% compared to the same month last year.
Compared to September, the number of unemployed people increased by 4.4% to 78,806. During October, 18,072 new unemployed people were then registered, coming mostly directly from previous employment (73.2% of them), while 14,806 people left the register, mainly through gaining employment. The highest number of jobs was achieved in trade, manufacturing and education.
The highest number of unemployed people was recorded in Split-Dalmatia County, Osijek-Baranja County and the City of Zagreb, while the lowest was in Lika-Senj County. In October, 26.3% of the unemployed used cash benefits, which is 20.1% more than back in 2024.
During that same month of October 2025, 14,867 jobs were advertised for 22,912 wanted workers, which is a drop of 9.4% compared to last October. This data shows that the labour market is undergoing changes with slightly rising unemployment in the short term, but still significant movements in employment, especially in key sectors of the economy.
A slowdown in employment and a sudden spike in unemployment following the end of the summer tourist season is otherwise extremely typical of Croatia’s problematic seasonality.
