So the accused was suffering from severe mental illness for over 20 years (out of 35) including delusions. He had expressed his thoughts and intentions openly with multiple professionals. He had previously attacked, bound and threatened to kill his mother. Had expressed to professionals his urge to murder a stranger for six whole years prior to him being left free to roam . And low and behold, He murdered an innocent stranger in his own home with a crow bar. What the absolute fuck is wrong with this country? Jimmy’s poor family will never get justice.
I’m shocked at how little publicity this has gotten.
>a consultant psychologist who did a review of Mr McLaughlin in 2012 found he was a high risk for matricide, suicide and for “stranger homicide” because of his persecutory delusions.
They don’t specify the mental illness, but it’s almost certainly paranoid schizophrenia.
The killer should not have been out in the public. Ireland really needs to address the laws surrounding detaining people like this. We have had way too many murders carried out by people suffering from paranoid schizophrenia.

How long will he stay in the CMH?
It’s a terribly tragic story.
