Yesterday evening (13th November) at around 19:00, an accident occurred at Luxembourg Airport during the landing of a light aircraft, which came to a stop after several hundred metres, unable to manoeuvre further. As a result, the runway had to be closed immediately.
After the pilots received medical attention and the technical accident investigation was carried out by the Police and the AET, recovery operations for the aircraft were initiated by the CGDIS. Safety procedures were implemented immediately and in full.
Subsequently, the runway was inspected for any technical damage or contamination, cleaned, and reopened for safe air traffic at 23:07.
In the meantime, several flights had to be cancelled or diverted due to the closure of the runway.
No persons other than the occupants of the light aircraft were involved in the incident, and no other aircraft or vehicles were affected.
lux-Airport kept passengers promptly informed through terminal announcements and screen messages, as well as via its website and social media channels, and provided free water in the terminal.
The runway did not sustain any damage as a result of the accident and is safe for operations.
lux-Airport thanked everyone involved for “their swift and professional response, as well as passengers for their patience and understanding”.
