Testing is not being performed
Three weeks after Spain removed mask and the celebration of the holy week the numbers are spiking here, and health experts are talking about a seventh wave. A number of closed ones have tested positive in the last couple of weeks, fortunately it didn’t seem to be anything bigger than a bad cold for them.
I don’t think we can disregard mask as useless. Contagion and spread will depend on many factors.
Well it feels it’s been months people didn’t put masks so
Vaccines and good weather play their part too
!remind me on November 1st
Less testing and high vaccine rates, like any other sickness that is barely heard of today like TB and Polio. Every year we’ll get even less cases until we barely remember it being an issue.
From what I understand cloth masks are next to useless, surgical do a very small difference and those fancy N64 or whatever ones offers a fair amount of protection, but that’s all with perfect use. It’s almost impossible to know how much they help with how people actually use them.
A better question at this point is: what is the point of “preventing” infections at all? Any one individual is gonna get covid over and over until their immune system deals with it just like any cold. Wearing a mask just delays the inevitable. And now that the vulnerable are vaccinated and healthcare systems aren’t going to collapse even from a large wave there really is no point for most people to try and protect themselves at all. Not anymore than it would be for any flu or cold. Aside from maybe booster vaccinations for the vulnerable.
I think pretty much every government in the world aside from China has realised this thankfully.
Does one have to notify the health authorities if they test positive?
To me it seems like people in Malta stopped wearing masks months ago. Conscientious people are still wearing masks regardless of requirements. Therefore, if mask culture didn’t really change (wild assumption of course) one could argue that the trend would remain the same.
1. Less people getting tested
2. Vaccines are doing their job
3. Summer is upon us
What is your hypothesis though? That removing masks would have led to an increase in cases? Keep in mind that this is the time of the year where illnesses are at a low.
Your chart tells me the trend is slowing and turning sideways now.
This pandemic never ceases to amaze me to the extent to how dense some can be.
You probably were wearing them wrong.
They r and u know it dont b blinded
That is a deep scientific study there
Heat plays a bigger role than masks
Give it time
Not really indicative, people are not testing so they’re more confident. It might be that we have now accepted the fact that we won’t be getting rid of it anytime soon,so everyone is just enjoying it while we can.
Edit:grammar
Trying to correlate two pieces of data is not enough. There are other factors which are pushing down the actual infection rate, the reported actual of infection, and the masks also led to changes in lifestyle with regards to cleanliness.
The removal of masks *might* have increased the infection rate (as if clearly did in other nations on other events) but it was not enough to counter the decreasing numbers.
So no, you cannot say that masks were “completely useless”, and trying to twist numbers to support that statement is a waste of time.
Masks work but they are not extremely effective so wouldn’t have a massive impact especially during warmer weather when people spend less time indoors. And as others have said – less testing.
Omicron isn’t bad at all so I suspect that several people don’t bother to get tested. I beat it fairly easily without the need to take any jabs. I felt worse with chest infections when I was younger. The older variants were deadlier and people had worse symptoms and thus were more likely to get tested.
No, it means that people do not care.
I had symptoms and the doc did not tell me to test myself… got a self test kit instead. i am positive but not part of the statistics. Like me, this week, there were hundreds.
Certain people still wear masks inside but trend will keep going down no mattter what happens for 2 reasons:
1) People are no longer getting any benefit when they’re at home in isolation. Getting a swab and registering as COVID positive will mean that they have to take the forced isolation days out of their regular sick days
2) People now can buy home kits and isolate if positive without registring as COVID positive.
It means herd immunity is taking place
a lot of people are still wearing their mask
Some were born with a brain and yet are creating posts like these, does it mean their brain is useless or it has done it’s part and is no longer needed? I guess we’ll never know
I do recall that at the beginning of the pandemic medical authorities of some countries stated that masks are useless because of the nature and the size of thr virus. Then after a year the polish minister of health said that masks are mandatory not in order to stop the spread of the virus but to remind us that we’re still in the pandemic. I believe that most of us ditched our masks many weeks/months ago or were wearing them only in shops or public transport. I think it’s too early to draw conclusions and there are many factors that we need to take under consideration and for sure we’ll see what happens when then season changes.
