Hello people,

I am looking into a potential offer to move to Luxembourg together with my girlfriend. Estimating my net income is rather hard because different online calculator tools give different results.

But on top of that there is the marriage question. According to [https://www.calculatrice.lu/calculator](https://www.calculatrice.lu/calculator) being married is a HUGE tax break. According to this being married is a 15-18% net income increase.

Is this accurate? Is this some sort of Lux citizen only tax break or does it apply to any residents/full time employees in Lux?

  1. It’s only a “tax break” if there’s a significant wage gap (e.g. your partner doesn’t work at all or works a low income job while you have a relatively high compensation). If you both earn +/- the same amount, then you pay just as much tax (on a % basis).

If you calculate your tax due in class 2, then you’ll need to add your partner’s income as well.
