What happened between Greece and Albania? We are almost the same genetically and were in Europe way before Slavic people arrived and yet we don’t cherish each-other. Will the old friendship ever come back?

  1. I think the bad blood came from the Ottomans. We both dealt with their conquest, but instead of teaming up, we (the Balkans) fought over pieces of land and turned each other into enemies.

    It’s dumb.

  2. I think it has already been revived. All the Albanians that I know personally in Greece are loved, respected and they have earned that right with their personalities. We got off on the wrong foot, when Hodja opened the prisons and many criminal elements entered the country, fueling the racism of idiots even more. But, with hard work, perseverance and good hearts, even the most racist idiots in Greece are beginning to recognize the beauty of the Albanian heart and soul.

    We love you neighbor.

  3. When was there a friendship? During Ottoman Empire? During ww2? Albania and Greece are still fighting about the Greek minority in Albania, the chams and Albania is siding with turkey plus there’s no peace treaty among these 2 countries. So i don’t know when Albania and Greece had good friendship, please educate me if I’m clueless.

  4. Im in a group of 7 friends. 3 of them are from albania, and they’re among the best people ive met in my life. Amazing guys, great friends, humorous, and above all, free of all prejudice.

Plus albania and greece are literally oh so close, culture-wise. Our traditional music sounds almost identical to theirs.

    We even look the same.

God bless greece and albania, we are brothers and sisters.

  5. No we are not genetically almost the same neither the 2 countries has a solid friends during all these years… From the ottoman era to the Balkan wars ww1 and 2

  6. Albanians were orthodox and in great relations with both Greeks and Serbs, but they migrated to Greece when Ottomans came and became Arvanites.

What you are refering to are jannissaries that changed their faith for a few grains and more rights from the Ottomans, until they grabbed the first chance and stabbed them in the back and did so with Italians, Serbs, communists and will do the same with Americans the first moment America starts becoming weak.

  7. Ali Pasha held court in Greek. From the classical Greek perspective, the Albanians/Illyrians, as well as the Bavarians are Alpine Dorians; and the Aeolian Vlahs are Carpathian Celts like the Galatians. The miracle of ancient Greece was its diversity as a multi-ethnic trading confederation. self determination and philetism are modern, Darwinian/Bizmarkian concepts. the Greeks believed in Universal Assimilative Citisenship like Alexander at Opis; the Mega Idea of Paul Melas was anyone who believed in Greek ideas and spoke Greek, was Greek.

  9. What old friendship dude ? History does not show any form of friendship or coalition, unless I am missing something, during the greek war of independence or even ww2. I would rather say the opposite.

Even now albania is showing friendlier stance towards turkey rather than greece, despite the fact that the former enslaved them for centuries and even banned their own language. Erdogan is gifting mosques to albania behaving like sultan and treating albania like a vassal state. There are albanians that think that turkey is protecting their country from the agressiveness of greece (…) which is just absurd.

    Dunno mate. Weird people.

  10. First of all there is no old friendship.
Secondly, I think that you can answer the question about ” what happened” by yourself. So, do you know what is the Greater Albania? If you do not know, a Google search will open your eyes to understand what happened. You cannot have good relationships with a country that promotes such ideas.
Finally, you can also ask the Greek that live in North Epirus in Albania what is their experience with some Albanians and mainly with Albanian government and what are their rights as a minority.
Then, you can ask yourself what happened and why we are not friends as countries (not as people)

Plus, all the other things about you relationships with Turkey that others have already written
