I spend a lot of time outdoors in Scotland and would love to see these in the wild.

  1. Got really going to take advice on how to manage the environment from the Greens thanks…

  2. You probably wouldn’t end up seeing one in all honesty. They’re incredibly shy animals and tend to stay away from humans, plus they’re nocturnal. It makes them a really good candidate for reintroduction, especially since there’s no record of any human death from a lynx.

  3. This is an excellent idea. Scotland’s forests can’t grow back due to excessive sheep and deer populations eating the young trees. The populations are excessive due to a lack of predation.

  4. I think its a great idea, but it will never happen. Look at how many birds of prey at illegally shot by landowners and gamekeepers to protect livestock and game. Would just be the same here. Farmers would be up in arms about how many animals they d lose etc.

  5. Can we reintroduce more people to the Highlands first? The artificial landscape relates more to the loss of people who lived and worked on the land than much else. Caithness and Sutherland had over twice the current population in the mid 1850s. Lynx haven’t been endemic in Scotland for over 1200 years and wolves for 500 years. The large numbers of deer are not due to a lack of predators, it’s due to how we have decided to manage the land over the last 200 years or so.

  6. Already had four illegal lynx releases this year. One of which died.

  7. All good until some poxy estate owner gets his gamekeeper to shoot it

  8. Pine martens have already had a positive effect – they’re helping the red squirrels re-establish themselves. Lynx would do so much good for the eco-system.

  9. 100% up for this along with a concerted effort to reduce Deer via human stalking and curtailing upland free roaming sheep.

We’re literally one of the most nature depleted countries on Earth which is absolutely shocking given how low our population density is.

  10. Yes!
And then onto bringing back wolves!

As a nation we should be deeply ashamed that we ever hunted to extinction an animal so deeply rooted in our history and identity.

A wolf is on the coat of arms for Stirling as one saved the society from Viking attack, the least we could do in return is reintroduce wolves to Stirlingshire! (Ok maybe the far north first, but it’s a nice dream)

  11. I think we should be realistic that this is a nice romantic idea but that’s pretty much it

  12. My main worry is whether they would out-compete native wildcats for prey?

  13. We have world renowned nature and biodiversity? Since when?

  14. Shouldn’t the reintroduction of trees, come before the reintroduction of large predators?

  15. First, we should replant the Great Caledonian Forest so that they have somewhere to be.

  16. It would possibly begin to deal with the massive overpopulation of Deer in the far north. Half the saplings get scranned before they can get tall enough to survive

  17. I’d love to see more biodiversity in Scotland. While we still need land for sheep and deer it’s equally as important that we have species that would reduce deer culling and the overpopulation of deer preventing our rainforests growing back.
