  2. Given the atrocities and repression Poland suffered under the Soviet-backed regime for 40+ years, it’s completely understandable why they view communism as an inherently totalitarian ideology that must be banned to protect their democracy 🙁

  9. There should be a ban on outlawing any party, it needs to be central to a democracy. I could understand the fear the communist outlaw their opponents- BUT THATS WHY YOU NEED THE BAN.

  13. Pole here: this party (KPP) is a meme at best. Only reason it exist is that it is so small and lame that it flies under the radar. It’s just some vestige from the fall of communism.

    PZPR (the ruling party during commie times) dissolved itself during the peaceful transition to democracy, so, in practice, nobody was going around banning commie parties, because the only one that mattered disolved itself.

    The president saying that he’ll go after it is the MOST publicity they ever had – it’s all grandstanding from the president: he’ll squash an ant and claim he’s slayed a dragon, and all politicians who will facepalm and ask “why bother” will be called commie-lovers by right-wing media.

  14. Most Polish just despise Communism. Not surprising, but i doubt it will go anywhere. Communist party in Poland is a laughingstock and has no power.
