Poland once again retains its spot as the worst-ranked country in the EU for LGBT+(Not the worst in Europe)

  1. The beauty of EU is that you can travel and find the best place for yourself. All of us. EU don’t need to be homogeneous. That way, everybody can find a place for himself.

  2. It’s very interesting given that Malta is a catholic country and it was the last country to even allow divorce! (In 2011!) As for Poland, finally PiS will probably lose elections and when that happens it’s possible that civil partnerships will be introduced. I say in 10-15 years. 😉

**EDIT:** Because it seems I wasn’t clear: I don’t think PiS will lose the NEXT elections. I think it will at some point in the future. And when that happens, I think the new government will introduce civil partnerships. I estimated that it will happen in about 10-15 years.

  3. Not much is gonna change with this government unfortunately.

  4. is it, tho? i think being gay in any backwood dump sucks in most countries, Poland being no exception. however, the major cities are mega gay friendly. hell, the gay parade is one of the biggest events of the year in Warsaw and is awesome.

  5. This is bullshit, just like all of the “Poland is anti-LGBT, racist, xsenophobic, anti-refugees and anti-migrants” country stereotype. It is sad but it is true, a lot of far left people shitting on their own country with no reason… Yes, there are some PiS and far right idiots who tell bad things about LGBT but it doesn’t mean LGBT people are persecuted here…

  6. I think it’s partly because Poland never really had a sexual revolution in general, unlike what happened in the west. We are quite conservative in this regard.

  7. There are those who claim that LGBT people are stigmatized in Poland. As a Polish citizen, I am surprised because so far most of my countrymen are **stigmatized as homophobic**.

  8. I think it’s one of the best places for gays and lesbians. I know many people mentioned above. You should know two things, many Poles don’t have anything against people other that straight but are against LGBT+ and their activists. If you consider this country as the worst because you can’t marry each other then you should change priorities or country to live.
My gay friends don’t belong and don’t want to be identify with LGBT. They even say that it should be LGB without T. What a turn of events

  9. They call not accepting blood donations from gay men discrimination. Blood donations from gays weren’t accepted in Germany in times when HIV could be detected only 6 months after infection and HIV rates were 60 times higher among gays so it simply was considered as to risky. They also didn’t accept blood from people injecting illegal drugs or prostitutes. That’s not discrimination, that’s rationality.
I also heard that Poland is supposed to be oh so antisemitic, but somehow it was the Izraeli ambassador in France who told his citizens to leave France because it’s too dangerous for Jews there. And it’s Berlin where every Jewish gathering must be protected by security holding machine guns. I discussed this matter with some polish idiot. His argument was “but according to a survey we are antisemitic” completely ignoring my argument about Germany and France.
I’m not claiming that there’s no homophobia in Poland – there is. But it’s not a serious problem, it is exaggerated and these surveys are bullshit. It’s also worth to mention that i heard way more stupid jokes about gays at work during half a year in the Netherlands then all my adult life in Poland.
People also confuse political correctness and politeness with lack of homophobia. It’s not the same.

  10. That’s why I won’t ever come out to my family nor friends. It’s a sad reality.

  11. You might think this is a discrimination against LGBT+ community. This is not true. Poland is also worst-ranked country in the EU for everyone else*.

*I did no fact checking whatsoever, its just my feelings sometimes.

  12. I think the perfect sentence to describe the general Polish people’s approach to the LGBT+ community would be “I’m not homophobic, BUT…”

  13. I’m just here to say the Gayborhood in Warsaw is still the most fun Gayborhood I’ve been to in the world!

  14. EU? That’s not good enough, let’s aim for the top spot in the world!

  15. Come on Poland, you are doing so brilliantly helping Ukraine and being a leader that way, you can do better for your citizens

  16. Just for clarification: many people (especially on the *other* Polish subreddit) seem to think this ranking is about homophobia and similar (i.e. lack of public acceptance of LGBT people), but it is not, it’s about laws and policies.

  17. Bullshit, you know why? Because here I constantly see members being themselves, while in my country, Romania, they hide, and the public opinion is much worse and closed. And yes, Romania is in the EU.

  18. Oh, wow, we aren’t the worst in Europe, just the EU. Yay.

I’m constantly amazed that the gay people I know still live here.

  19. It’s somehow strange for me as I’ve never seen anyone say or do LGBT community wrong except govt. And few skinheads of course. But that a margin in my country.
