Ukrainian and American historian, a professor of Ukrainian history at Harvard University, Serhiy Plokhiy, will host a special evening at the Ukrainian House in Washington, D.C. (District of Columbia, USA), where he will present his new book.

Plokhiy, one of the world’s leading experts on the history of Ukraine, Russia, and Eastern Europe, will present to readers The Nuclear Age: An Epic Race for Arms, Power, and Survival (The Nuclear Age: An Epic Race for Arms, Power, and Survival).

The new book was published in October 2025 by W.W. Norton (USA) and Penguin (Great Britain) and is described as a sweeping account of the nuclear era: its threats, ambitions, and impact on humanity.

Professor Plokhiy is known as a laureate of numerous awards, including the Lionel Gelber Prize, Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction, and the Duke d’Arenberg Prize in European history. His presentation will be an important event for the Ukrainian community and academic circles in Washington.

The event will take place on November 21 at 5:00 p.m. local time.

It is also known that Serhiy Plokhiy’s book “Chernobyl Roulette: The War in the Nuclear Zone” has made the longlist for the BBC Book of the Year – Essays 2025 prize.
