Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley has been arrested and charged with felony assault in what police in Texas are calling a “family violence” incident. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office says the 37-year-old was arrested early Friday at a home in Rosharon. Beverley is asking for people not to “believe everything you see on the internet.” He has also reposted an unsigned statement saying he had unexpectedly found his minor sister alone with an 18-year-old man. Beverley is a 12-year veteran of the NBA who last played for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024. He previously was with the Houston Rockets, the Los Angeles Clippers and several other teams.

Authorities in New Jersey are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy who was reported to have fallen from a 20th-story window. Newark police were called to a high-rise apartment building Saturday morning on the report of a child falling from the window. The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene, along a public park near Newark Liberty International Airport. An investigation has been announced by the Essex County prosecutor and the Newark public safety director. Authorities have not yet made further information available.

Alice Wong, a disability rights activist and author who championed people with disabilities, has died. She was 51. She died Friday in a hospital in San Francisco because of an infection, said Sandy Ho, a close friend. Wong was diagnosed as a small child with a progressive neuromuscular disability. She used a power wheelchair and an assistive breathing device. She was a funny person and humorous writer who wanted people with disability to have independence and a voice for themselves, her friend said.
Brazil’s federal police have formally accused former human rights minister Silvio Almeida of sexual misconduct. Almeida was fired last year over these allegations. Prosecutors will now decide whether to press charges. If charges are filed, the Supreme Court will determine if Almeida faces trial. Local outlets reported the formal accusation on Friday. Almeida has previously denied any wrongdoing. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva fired Almeida last September after MeToo Brazil reported complaints against him. Anielle Franco, a minister for racial equality, was named as one of the alleged victims. Violence against women remains a significant issue in Brazil.
Dozens of people have gathered in southern Haiti to say goodbye to those killed by Hurricane Melissa. The Category 5 hurricane was one of the strongest Atlantic storms in recorded history. It killed at least 43 people in Haiti, and more than a dozen others remain missing. Most of the deaths occurred in Petit- Goâve, where the community mourned their own on Saturday. Sadness mixed with guilt as the survivors of the storm wept for those who died. Anger also prevailed, with a protest along a main highway scheduled for Monday to demand a quicker response and more aid from the government.

The Seawolves got a 23-yard field from Michael Mannino with 32 seconds in regulation and then a 44-yarder after they lost a yard on the opening possession of overtime. McQuade was 18 of 30 for 280 yards for the Wildcats with a touchdown pass of 37 yards to Braden Reed and 10 and 21 yards to Luke Colella in the fourth. The second score came with 2:39 to play and put Villanova on top 24-21. Then Quinn Boyd, who was 21-of-33 passing for 278 yards, guided Stony Brook down the field but threw two incompletions from the 5 before settling for the field goal.
Wisconsin says running back Gideon Ituka has feeling in his extremities after he was carted off the field on a backboard during Saturday’s loss at No. 2 Indiana. The Big Ten Network reported during its telecast Ituka had been taken to a local hospital. Ituka later posted on social media that he was doing well and on the plane home with his teammates. He was injured in the third quarter on a play that he took two big hits. Trainers quickly rushed onto the field. Players from both teams took a knee. Ituka gave a thumbs up as he was leaving the field.
Beau Brungard accounted for six touchdowns — three passing and three rushing — to lead Youngstown State to a 48-29 victory over Indiana State. Brungard had 264 yards passing and 90 yards rushing for Youngstown State. Max Tomczak caught seven passes for 109 yards and Jaden Gilbert had 91 yards rushing that included a 73-yard non-scoring run. The Buffalo Bills are bringing reinforcements to their Josh Allen-led passing game by elevating Gabe Davis from the practice squad and signing fellow wide receiver Mecole Hardman to the active roster. The defense is also getting help with rookie tackle T.J. Sanders activated off of injured reserve in a series of moves made Saturday, a day before the Bills host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dobbins is heading to injured reserve and needs surgery on his left foot that likely will end his season. Dobbins was injured last week against the Raiders. He later posted a rant on social media calling for penalties on hip-drop tackles. Dobbins has been a key offensive player for the Broncos. Rookie R.J. Harvey is set to take over as lead running back. Denver hosts the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The Broncos are also missing several other starters because of injuries.
Donald Hand Jr. had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Boden Kapke and Fred Payne each scored 17 points and Boston College beat Temple 76-71 on Saturday. Boston College had its largest lead at 70-57 with 2:49 remaining before Gavin Griffiths began an 8-0 run for Temple to get back in it. Griffiths added another 3-pointer with 45.2 seconds left to pull Temple with in 72-68 but Hand answered with two free throws. Masiah Gilyard made a basket in the lane with 29.4 to go to get the Owls within four points again but Aidan Shaw went 1 of 2 from the stripe to help secure it. Shaw finished with 14 rebounds to go with seven points and five blocks for Boston College (2-2).
Jack Snyder and Mitchell Summers both ran for a pair of touchdowns to lift Sacred Heart to a 42-37 win over Merrimack. Snyder, who ran for 163 yards on eight carries, threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Casey and then scored on runs of 82 and 23 yards. Summers carried 23 times for 150 yards with scores covering 53 yards and 1 yard, which put Sacred Heart on top for good 28-24 late in the third quarter. Then Trey Eberhart broke free for an 81-yard score on the next possession as he finished with 107 yards on six carries. Ayden Pereira was 20 of 40 for 170 yards and two touchdowns and had 22 keepers for 173 yards and two more scores for the Warriors.

The Wolverines overcame three late turnovers, including two interceptions by Bryce Underwood, and remained in the running for the College Football Playoff with their fourth straight win. Northwestern lost its third in a row. Zvada’s boot capped a 50-yard drive and set off a celebration on the field and in the stands, where a large part of the crowd wore maize and blue.
A Texas trooper who had an altercation with South Carolina’s Nyck Harbor after his touchdown was sent home from the game, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Harbor scored on an 80-yard reception in the second quarter and ran into the tunnel limping following the score on Saturday. As he and three other players were walking back to the field, the trooper walked in between Harbor and another player and bumped into them as they passed each other. The trooper and Harbor turned around and the trooper pointed at Harbor with both hands and said something to him.
Marcel Reed threw for a career-high 439 yards and three touchdowns and No. 3 Texas A&M rallied from a 27-point deficit to remain undefeated with a 31-30 victory over South Carolina. It’s the biggest comeback in school history, eclipsing a 21-point rally by a Johnny Manziel-led team in a 52-48 win in the 2013 Chick-Fil-A Bowl over Duke. Entering Saturday, teams were 0-286 in Southeastern Conference play since 2004 when trailing by 27 points or more.

Jack Stanton had 15 and Jackson Hicke added 12.
Green Bay Packers kicker Brandon McManus is doubtful for Sunday’s matchup with the New York Giants because of a quadriceps injury after that issue caused him to miss two games earlier this season. The Packers added McManus to the injury report on Saturday. Green Bay also noted that receiver Malik Heath isn’t traveling with the team and won’t play because of what the Packers described as “coach’s decision.” McManus didn’t play in the Packers’ victories over Cincinnati on Oct. 12 and at Arizona on Oct. 19 because of a quad injury.

Brady Olson, who threw for 423 yards and four touchdowns, gave the Blue Devils a 33-32 with two long touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. Butts, who had missed several games with an injury, burst up the middle for a 59-yard score with 3:19 to play. Olson guided the Blue Devils down field but his last pass was broken up by Henry Pickens III and Epps was there to grab the loose ball. Butts carried only 14 times for the Dukes ,with his other two scoring runs covering 29 and 57 yards.
