Official statistics are vastly undercounting deaths from extreme weather

1. This is why Gates’s claim about how climate change “will not lead to humanity’s demise” being crowed about by the wilfully ignorant is so frustrating. 

   In terms of “civilization,” for capital, at least in the short-term, it might not; but for individuals, it’s absolutely already leading to the demise of many beings (humans and other animals). 

   The billionaires and their sycophantic sympathizers just operate at a level of abstraction that makes them more than willing to write off widespread endangerment in favor of a statistical perspective that serves their interests.
