Nobody was injured in an incident involving an ultra-light aircraft at the Malta International Airport on Sunday morning.

The Malta International Airport said in a statement that the incident happened at approximately 09:55 local time and involved an ultra-light aircraft (registration 9H-VLT) with two persons on board.

9H-VLT is a single-engined Tecnam P2002JF Sierra, belonging to a local school of flying. A picture shared by Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri showed that the aircraft’s front landing gear had collapsed.

“Malta International Airport can confirm that first responders were immediately on site and that no injuries were reported. The situation is being managed in coordination with the relevant authorities, and an investigation into the cause of the incident is underway,” the airport said.

It said that Runway 23/05 has been temporarily closed, while the main runway, 31/13 remains fully operational.

“Flight movements are continuing with minimal disruption,” MIA said.

Malta International Airport extended its appreciation to the airport team and all stakeholders for their swift and coordinated response.
