Malta goalkeeper Henry Bonello was selected in the Sofascore Team of the Week after his heroics in the national team’s win over Finland earlier this week.

Malta achieved a smash and grab 1-0 win in Helsinki, as an 82nd minute goal from midfielder Jake Grech secured the national team’s first FIFA World Cup qualifying victory since 2013.

Bonello was a massive part of the win, as he made multiple saves to keep the cleansheet and keep Finland from scoring.

He was given a 9.0 rating by Sofascore, a popular sports statistics and live score application, and therefore selected in its Team of the Week together with several stars of the footballing world.

Also in the same team was Bayern Munich and France star Michael Olise – who achieved a perfect 10, Manchester City and Croatia defender Josko Gvardiol, and Roma and Italy defender Gianluca Mancini who’s late goal against Moldova paved the way for Italy to win their match.

Bonello’s rating made him the second best performer in the whole week, behind only Olise.

Malta face Poland in the last match of their FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaign on Monday at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium.

Malta currently sits in 4th place of the group with 5 points to its name – 2 points clear of Lithuania, who sit bottom.
