Peel Regional Police have released new details about the shooting death of a man in Brampton as they appeal for witnesses and information.
Police say just after 7:15 p.m. on Saturday they were called to the area of Loafers Lake Lane and Conestoga Drive, north of Sandalwood Parkway East and west of Kennedy Road North, for reports of a shooting.
In a parking lot between Paul Palleschi Recreation Centre and Cyril Clark Library Branch, officers found a male suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim, who has only been identified as a 39-year-old man from Hamilton, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, Const. Manny Khatra told CP24 on Sunday afternoon.
It is not known, he said, what kind of relationship may or may not have existed between the victim and the shooter(s).
No other injuries have been reported.
The suspect(s), meanwhile, fled the area in a northbound direction in a newer model white Acura RDX. That vehicle has since been located in the north end of Brampton, near the Caledon border, Khatra said.
No suspect descriptions are available at this time.
Const. Manny Khatra, of Peel Regional Police Const. Manny Khatra, of Peel Regional Police, speaks with CP24 on Nov. 16.
At this point in the investigation, police say they do not have a motive for the shooting, instead their priority is to find those responsible.
“Obviously, our investors are going to look at all different avenues and all different scenarios, but at this time, our focus is to find the suspects and hopefully arrest those who are responsible for this terrible incident,” Khatra said.
He added that based on their investigation, Peel police believe gunshots were fired in close proximity between both parties, adding that the “manner that this shooting took place, and in the way it all occurred, appears to be an isolated and targeted incident.”
Investigators are urging anyone who saw what happened or anyone with further information, including video footage, to contact the Homicide Bureau directly at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
