  1. Wojtek drank beer, smoked cigarettes and carried ammunition for the soldiers. Bear received the rank of corporal from the commander of the Polish army.

  2. There was also a polish bear from WWI, Baśka Murmańska. A polar bear to be precise. So if you will ever heard about Polish Army getting a bear prepare yourself a lot of food and shelter in the forest.

  3. “Hey Janek! They wont let Wojtek on board! Brits say no pets

    “Well then enlist him!”

    “What?

“You heard me Henryk, enlist him. Give him his serial number, his paybook, and tags”

“And why should we do this?”

“To bring him with us! Cant deny passage to a soldier, regardless of…species”

“Have you been hitting the vodka again?”

    “This time it’s the beer”

  4. There are multiple statues of him. I know for sure there is one in Sopot, and one in Edinburgh .

  5. My grandmothers brother was in the same squad with wojtek. He survived monte casino. After war he escaped to UK because in Poland after war soldiers were persecuted by Stalin. After Monte casino his weight was about 40 kg even that he was 6ft. He came back to Poland in 53 and found my family with help of red cross. His wife didnt even know he was alive when she met him after 9 years.

  6. Did you know guys that Sunday 15 May, Embassy of Poland in Naples is gonna organize an event about that in Montecassino?

  7. Strict diet of Zywiec beer and grandmother’s pierogies.

  8. Its all fun and games blitzkrieging Poland until your Squad gets ambushed by a bear.

  9. In America, there is a right to bear arms. In Poland, there is a right to arm bears.

  10. I learned about him on history lessons a few months ago. Impressive and interesting
