At the end of the article, they mention shooting the archer, the place where these drones are fired.
I have a question but arent one of the selling points of these drones that they can be set and fired from anywhere.
1 year ago they showed how these drones are fired, they are literally packed into a truck. Hydraulic lifted at an angle and fired. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1E8APv0iPo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1E8APv0iPo)
When I read the BBC article it sounds like to me that the NATO folks are assuming that these firing locations are static and they know before hand where all these drones are coming from. When in fact that’s not anywhere true.
Or rather what are they defining as the archers? The factories building these drones?
I’m skeptical of the effort to build some sort of technological wall in countries bordering Russia simply because I doubt it will protect them from future drone incidents.
The drones in Poland were probably the only ones that flew from Russia (though it’s been theorized that it was part of Ukraine’s false flag covert operation to get NATO involved in the war). Protecting from these drones is possible though will require huge investment and mobilization of resources. Scrambling jets evert time is a huge expense, and hopefully they don’t shoot up some civilians house and cause casualties like Poland did. Mobile crews are also effective but need to be mobilized in huge numbers and on alert 24/7. Ukraine has a huge task force dedicated to this and I wouldn’t call Ukrainian skies drone proof. And Ukraine has an army many times what Europe currently has.
The mysterious drones at airports inside of Europe were never identified as specifically Russian, Russia was just blamed for them. Nobody was captured operating them. No drones were captured or recovered. They obviously didn’t come from Russia given the distance. They were launched by somebody on the inside (and it can be a legitimate Russian operation or some locals taking a piss). So, “drone wall” wouldn’t help with them unless you institute strict security measures at every airport and major infrastructure piece in Europe. Huge expense and huge mobilization of resources.
Given the size and density of Europe, I’d say if Russia was serious about crippling Europe’s air traffic and indeed had it as a target, Europe would have to spend enormous amount of money and resources to counter them.
But it’s interesting how you haven’t heard about mysterious airport drones in Europe for a while. Just like they mysteriously appeared, they also disappeared quickly. What’s also interesting is that Ukraine stopped their attacks on Russian airports they used to execute very often and switched to bombing oil refineries. Coincidence? Were drones in Europe a Russian way of saying “make your puppet stop or two can play this game”? Hmmmmm…
Blow up the drone factories if they pull games.Deterrence sometimes mean acting with extreme anger and swiftness . setting a ruthless example so that these activities can no longer carry on.
you can argue its escalatory or over responding but i believe in one big swoop instead of chasing drones.
then again. Can europe even strike that deep and hard?
