Our recidivism rate is low, but the stats are juked. We punish a lot of traffic violations with prison, which they dont do in other nordic countries. The ones going to prison for traffic charges tend to stay out of prison after this. This makes up for a lot of the stats.
More than 60 percent of our violent offenders with a prior conviction end up back in prison within two years of getting released.
The thing is the system present in America is made intentionally to incarcerate black and/or poor people. Having the highest incarceration rate is not a bug, is a feature.
