A nine-month-old boy was fatally bitten by his family's XL bully dog. Jonte Bluck suffered the head injury while staying at his father's Monmouthshire home, an inquest opening at Gwent coroner's court heard.
The attack happened on November 2 at a home in Crossway in the village of Rogiet, near Caldicot. Coroner Rose Farmer said Jonte "was bitten by the family dog".
She added: "Emergency services attended and Jonte was conveyed to the Grange University Hospital but died prior to arrival."
A post-mortem examination at the University Hospital of Wales gave a provisional cause of death as compressive head injury in keeping with a dog bite. The inquest was adjourned to August.

Intolerably sad, it’s unbelievable how irresponsible people can be.
So sad, thoughts with the family.
Shocked pikachu fact that it’s a shitbull
What will it take for people to learn about these dogs?
This murder dog basically ragdolled the baby by the head and neck and held on til he died, then? Horrific. Might forward this to my idiot cousin who has a one year old and a Staffie under the same roof…
Many walkers & dog owners around this area don’t always have their dogs of any breed on leads & harnesses fyi. On the trail walks around there in the past few years, I’ve been worried about my docile lab getting attacked by a loose aggressive animal, the way some toff’s greyhounds & terriers have already gone for him unprovoked before. Got fed up of the anxiety, so I don’t bother or travel to those footpaths anymore. And that’s even without ever seeing an XL, boxer or bully of any sort…
Is it just me, or is leaving a toy dog with the flowers a bit… insensitive?
My sympathy for the family is a bit strained, given that they *really* should have known better, but even so.
