Sveiki visi!

100 teenagers and young adults from the Balkans will come down with two buses from an event in Finland. They will stop by Riga on August 8 and I’m helping them to organize their stay.

Accommodation is taken care off. I’m thinking about lunch and a trip to the beach (which they requested).

First off: The place where they will stay at is at Baznicas iela. The two buses will drop them off there, but where could they be parked for the night? I was thinking [here](https://goo.gl/maps/BCBXMPnPgFMyWpQn7) maybe?

Second: I suggested that the easiest way for them to eat lunch is to go to [Lido](https://goo.gl/maps/KctutyKoGyH3pQpn8). I will call them later myself, but I’m wondering if they will have enough space for 100 people… I mean, I ate there twice, and it seemed pretty big inside… 🤔 And the parking lot seemed big enough that they could fit the two buses.

Then they really really want to go to the beach somewhere, but it had to be a beach with open showers. I was to [Jurmala](https://goo.gl/maps/zcjhQqmos4qR1MgDA) a few times and remember there being something like that. I also will later research if buses are allowed inside (with the 2€ fee and whatnot) and where they could park…

If any of you know any more details, it’d be a great help! 🙏

Paldies sirsnigs!

  1. Good place is [here](https://www.google.com/maps/place/56%C2%B056'04.1%22N+24%C2%B008'58.0%22E/@56.9344735,24.1482736,407m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m13!1m6!3m5!1s0x46eed1e37fa6714d:0xab4114c1c2d9ad5b!2sLIDO!8m2!3d56.926888!4d24.1596533!3m5!1s0x0:0x7bb4f8c852918cc8!7e2!8m2!3d56.9344717!4d24.1494329) if your first option is full.
About lido, there is plenty of room for 100 people, if you use upper and lower sections. Its pretty empty in mondays, if only there is no fest in riga.
For jurmala use https://mobilly.lv/en/jurmala-pass-on-your-phone/ , its 2euros per bus till 23:59

  2. Lido Dzirnavas will have place, but, yes, do let them know you are coming. Extra 100 people at the same time could easily lead to long wait times, unless they are prepared.

As regards beach, it is possible that some locations on the west wing of the gulf (ie Jūrmala), which has more amenities, may have showers, but I wonder how many. I bet there will be like 2-6 showers at some location and the next ones (if any) will probably be kilometer away. Not much use for 100+ people.

Since Baltic sea is the least salty in the world, and the Gulf of Riga is even less salty then that, showers are generally not particularly needed. People just let the water dry on skin or towel themselves off.

Here’s a tip regarding choosing the beach to visit. If you’re looking to swim, check the wind direction. In general, even in warmest summer, if the wind blows (sun warmed surface water) away from coast, water will be very very cold.

So, west wing of gulf (Jūrmala) will have warm water with wind from east, and the other wing -+ Vidzemes jūrmala -+ if the wind is from west. North wind is generally good for both sides, and South wind generally bad for both.

  3. We don’t have showers on the beach, maximum to was your feet from sand. Our sea is not salty, so may not be a problem. Also, weather can be bad and our sea not so warm, so be prepared.

As for the bus parking, place that you found is good as it doesn’t have any time restrictions and it’s free.
Here is link with more bus parking, where green places without time restrictions and red usually allow to stop for up to 15 minutes.
