The Lake District Has Been Named The Top UK Road Trip

  1. That’s good, because it keeps the many, far far better places out of the public eye.

Like /u/newnortherner21 said, I’m surprised the NC500 wasn’t top of the list.

  2. My understanding is that Beatrix Potter, who wrote *The Tale of Peter Rabbit* bought up a great deal of the lakes area and bequeathed it to the country in her will, so it would remain unspoiled.

  3. I live in the Lake District, for locals, there’s not much left in terms of local life to be honest. Every village is half bought out my 5th home owners and the roads, Jesus, 10 minute journeys have become 30 minutes with terrified driving/hard braking and panicking, they don’t know how to drive on our lanes.

Yes it’s an amazing place but for everyone I know, we can’t live where we grew up anymore and everything is just for tourists now.

So to anyone who wants to visit, do, but please remember there are many locals trying to live their lives too, let us actually get on to where we need to go.

  4. For me driving in the Lake District is either being sat in traffic or being stressed while on a 1 car wide road that someone is going to be coming the other way and il have to reverse for a mile. Definitely not fun.
