Every time a headline includes the words “could be X” and “says X” means it’ll never happen
The only places able to operate there would be those “Corporate Entertainment Venue” type places with 241 cocktails etc. attracting day trippers / wronguns, not Londoners.
Better to have less concentrated more organic varied areas of nightlife which are less likely to attract bellends.
Makes sense
It’s an interesting idea given the fact nobody lives there and there’s great transport links. 100 Club is *fantastic* and proof that it could work, but the rents around there would be so prohibitively high now that I fear it’d just be Tiger Tiger/Simmons/All Bar One-esque stuff rather than any really crucial cultural space.
Having gig venues beneath or above, like, Primark or wherever could be brilliant but I’m not holding my breath.
“night” life. London is the city that goes to bed early…
Good idea, its a total dump with mostly awful shops
Maybe we could just travel back in time and bring back the Astoria, Mean fiddler and The End. RIP.
Seriously though, new oxford street end used to be a place to go out.
Let’s stop destroying soho while we’re at it…
It already was a ‘Nightlife destination’ but the council killed the vibe by closing the best clubs and bars and now they think they can just magically pull back the crowds in the middle of a financial meltdown?

Who wants to go to Oxford street in the night?
