MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp gave an update Tuesday on Officer Justin Brown, who was critically injured in a crash last week during a security motorcade for Vice President JD Vance.
Brown was seriously injured when his police motorcycle collided with a state trooper’s car near Merrit Road on East Lamar Alexander Parkway on Friday, according to Crisp.

Crisp said Brown is continuing to make small improvements as his medical team continues to evaluate the next steps in his pathway to recovery.
“We know that this community cares deeply about how he is doing. We are encouraged with the progress he makes each day. He is alert, talking, and is in good spirits,” said Crisp. “FTO Brown considered by the medical team to be in critical but stable condition.”
Support for Brown and MPD has flooded in from the community and across the country, Crisp said, adding that he met with Vance on Sunday to discuss Brown’s condition.
“The Vice President reached out to us the night of the crash and we have had several communications since keeping up with his condition,” Crisp said. “He wants to speak with FTO Brown as soon as his recovery will allow it.”
MPD has also approved a fundraiser for Brown through Blue Line Tennessee. Crisp said it is currently the only agency-approved fundraiser.
“Thank you for your continued support, compassion, and vigilance,” said Crisp. “Our community has always stood strong together, and we are deeply grateful.”
Crisp previously said people on the scene immediately rendered aid to Brown and played a critical role in saving his life.
