Cost-conscious utilities resist Trump’s push for nucIear revival. Trump has yet to convince major utilities to commit to building large reactors again. The sector remains traumatized after sky-high cost overruns tied to the Vogtle and VC Summer plants. “The administration is a little tone deaf.”

  1. Utilities shying away from building costly infrastructure, where they make all their profits?

Are state utility commissions actually, finally beginning to hold them accountable for financial catastrophes like Vogtle?

  2. Better to go wind and solar and battery anyway.

In fact, we had plans and funding for that before Trump gutted it

  3. Are you sure? We’re in the process of restarting 3 large reactors, tva is progressing smrs which will lead to large reactors (similar to Ontario power generation), VC summer is back on the table and the list goes on

  4. BS… 3-mile-island is coming back online in 2027 and TVA announced they will be building 6 SMRs with the first one slated to start construction at clinch River in 2028 and online by 2032.

    I’m sure there’s more too…

  5. Well…outside of the southeast and west (excl. CA), utilities don’t develop generation (note: if they do, it’s an unregulated subsidiary)

In other words, only a subset of utilities even have the authority to build and operate their own generation. And those that do follow a time-honored investment planning process (which admittedly doesn’t do a great job with evaluating new tech)

  6. This administration? Tone deaf? Ignoring advice from experts and people who know what they’re talking about?

Excuse me. I need to go sit down and recover from the shock I’m feeling.

  7. Scary thought is that Trump could declare a national Energy Emergency and clear all hurdles and regulations.

  8. “A little tone deaf.” This Republican Regime only hears the whines and rants of the a pubescent orange tyrant.

  9. Honest question: Would getting rid of NERC help mitigate these issues?

Edit: Meant to type NRC and got my acronyms mixed up.

  10. There are giant plains and deserts in the middle of the US that could be tapped for solar and wind, bringing jobs and long-needed infrastructure upgrades. Just saying.
