Greece’s National Organization for Health Care Services (EOPYY) is confronting a major fraud involving illegal prescriptions, with preliminary investigations estimating losses at over €12 million.

According to the Pharmaceutical Directorate, 32 doctors and 62 pharmacies have been implicated in the scheme, which led to fines totaling €98,500. The findings were presented during an EOPYY meeting on November 6, with results made public on Tuesday.

Authorities said additional checks are underway, covering 10 more doctors and 80 pharmacies linked to three separate police investigations overseen by the Financial Crime Unit.

EOPYY has emphasized its commitment to rooting out fraudulent practices in healthcare provision, highlighting the ongoing collaboration with law enforcement to ensure accountability and prevent further financial losses.

The organization urges patients and healthcare providers to remain vigilant against suspicious prescription activity and report irregularities promptly.
