A Russian spy ship has tried to blind British military pilots with lasers, the Defence Secretary has revealed.

John Healey said the Yantar vessel fired the beams of light at pilots flying an RAF P-8 Poseidon submarine hunter after the jet had been sent to monitor it.

The vessel, thought to be part of the Kremlin’s “shadow fleet”, is currently being followed by a Royal Navy frigate off the coast of Scotland, Mr Healey said.

  1. They are pathetic. This aircraft might look like a harmless airliner but it could blow them out of the water with missiles and torpedoes.

  2. The Russians will continue to become increasingly aggressive until someone stands up to them. So far no consequences for anything they have done.

  3. Given the state of the Russian Navy im picturing a bunch of random Russians running around the deck with laser pointers.

  4. Ping it with a series of very strong sonar pings. That’ll rattle em.

  5. Sink that shit and tell them it was a mistake from temporarily blinded pilot. And you’re investigating why he was blinded and by what.

  6. For any vessel other than a Man of War, holding Commission or Letter of Marque, to fire upon a ship of His Majesty’s Navy was once considered both the act and the proof of Piracy.

Pirates were to be sunk, burned, taken, or made a prize instantly and without questions, with nothing awaiting the survivors (if any) but Wapping Dock and “three tides.”

For a national ship or privateer to do so, would be an act of War.

I hope we may beat to Quarters and clear the decks for action at once.

  7. Nope. It’ll be a strongly-worded letter.

RF gets away with everything “because they have nukes!”

  8. It’d be really funny if they just blew it up, but the British military has been exceptionally lame for decades now so I don’t see it happening

  9. Then sink the fucker…they will only do it once.

  10. If only we had a competent navy that would go and impound the boat…

  11. oops, the pilot was blinded and couldn’t see where the missile was going

  12. At what point do they shoot back we have sabotage constantly gps jamming lasers at pilots political interference.

  13. It would be a shame if this ship accidentally cracked in two and sank in the north sea.

  14. Are we sure there are no “Ukrainian” sea drones off the coast of Scotland? It’s a very capable country. Who is to say there isn’t a presence in the North Sea and Baltics?

  15. Storm Shadow it out of existance – FUCK ruzzia-FUCK pootin 🚀 🇬🇧 🚀 🇬🇧 🚀 🇬🇧

  16. I suppose causing a sonic boom in close proximity to the ship would be a cheeky response?

  17. would the physical damage caused by lasers, up to potential blindness, be considered equivalent to firing a wounding bullet at a soldier? seems like they are about the same thing, though maybe international law would make a distinction

  18. Do it back already cowards

Every god damn ship, jet or whatever that is crossing any line must be annoyed and bothered in any way.

Hunt them down and deny everything just like Russia.

We are too modest in the West.

  19. How do they know they’re firing at the blind pilots and not the ones with good vision?

  20. Roger. You are cleared to engage. Fire at will. I repeat, fire at will. Over.

  21. Itd be a real shame if it blew up and sank due to russian negligence. Reeeeall shame.

  22. Do you “fire” a laser? I feel like shoot, or shine, or beam would be the right verb?

Shine sounds pretty wimpy. Beam or like emit sounds tough tho.

  23. That is an attack on the RAF pilot, that should be answered by force, blow the ship up.
