  1. My latest: British Defense Secretary John Healey said a Russian spy ship had entered the NATO ally’s northern waters and directed lasers at military planes sent to monitor it. He warned the Kremlin that “we are ready” if the vessel tries to travel further south.

  8. Surely they were monitoring the ship as it traversed to this area, knowing they’d be up to something. Russia is always testing to push “normal” farther and farther to their advantage. I’m not savvy enough to know Ukraine’s aerial capabilities, but even though the Russian ship isn’t in the immediate theater of war in Ukraine and Russia, would they be able to bomb that ship out of existence (or any Russian ship anywhere in the world)?

  9. Ignore the spy part, isn’t it illegal on a criminal level to use any sort of optical laser against a plane?

    Just go out and arrest the entire crew on charges of that.

  11. Reminds me of the part in “Blackhawk Down”, where the Somalis are shooting at the rangers, and a soldier is shouting “Sir, they’re shooting at us!”. And his response is “Well shoot back”. And then all hell broke loose.

    The lasers can injure people. They can cause aircraft to crash if the pilots are dazzled. It’s a hostile act.

    So they should shoot back…

  16. Ukrainians know how to properly handle and respond to a Russian warship. The rest of Europe should follow that example.
