Could they report how much the standing goverment is spending and lowering rich peoples taxes. Sanna Marin cannot be cause to every shitty thing our goverment does. Who the fuck even cares about her anymore? Can we move on?

So did every other government on the planet. This feels like a “well I certainly would have made perfect decisions in a crisis!” hit job by politicians who do not have to deal with the crisis.
Sanna Marin will be in Pasadena California tonight speaking at a “Distinguished Speaker Series” event. I’m curious what the consensus (if there be) is on her time in office by the average Finn.
“Recklessly”?!? Do they know at Yle what does that word mean?
That article is biased to oblivion, just another attempt to throw mud at Marin and her governmet.
I mean, not here to defend her or anything like that…but some fairness for hecksake…
If they would have spent money for dinners, useless gala events, stupid infrastructures, then I would understand.
But calling administration expenses and municipal finances “reckless”, that’s just sensationalism.
Reckless is the expenditure of the local goverments in places like Turku, where they dig for YEARS in the main square to build a useless parkin space.
Or the Funikulaari.
Now those are reckless.
This was the case over 20 years ago already. Politicians had some crazy idea that there will always be surplus money and they increased spending without any concern. Wohoo we have Nokia, unlimited money!
>>At the same time, spending increases unrelated to the Covid crisis — for example supporting municipal finances, state administration, and defence — began to grow and have remained permanently higher.
Gee, wonder why defence spending went up?
to the surprise of no one who was paying attention at the time. she was unfit to lead from the moment she took over.
This was known and criticised but it was brushed off as right-wing sexism or whatnot.
A lot of passing the buck. You should face the reality that no amount of austerity will save you if the economy doesn’t drastically improve.
Okay, cool. This still doesn’t justify killing worker’s rights and Perussuomalaiset betraying their voters by basically doing nothing about immigration.
Then I guess we are really lucky not to have PS in the government back then, because the budget they proposed had even more spending and national debt.
Also, in 2023 health services went to counties. Didn’t that increase local expenses? Although it should generate savings for central government, just don’t know if they’ll be immediate.
Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. That had an impact in the economy beyond the covid impact.

She is trash. In every sense of the word.

Wonder how much went to politicians and friends.
I remember this case. There must be more:

Seemed a bit weird report and article. The title is about Marin’s government but they are also reporting 2024 expenses… Then the report mentions measures taken during Covid, but it’d like to know how they assigned a certain expense with Covid and not others when all economy was affected. In one explicit point I agree, maybe admin expenses were not necessary. But regarding municipal expenses, covid was hurting municipal finances. https://www.vtv.fi/en/blog/coronavirus-is-hurting-municipalities-already-weak-finances-it-will-also-make-uusimaa-region-more-dependent-on-state-funding/
