  1. Submission statement:

Some glimmers of hope on the weather front of global warming. European and N. American economies have not increased their CO2 emissions since the year 2000.

This good news has been overshadowed by increased emissions elsewhere, mostly from China. However, even on that front the rate of increase has declined, with China now leading the global clean-energy sector.

This article predicts that CO2-equivalent emissions will peak within the next decade and then begin to decline. Not soon enough to prevent a 1.5°C increase in global temperatures, but below previous predictions.

  2. EU is the only one actually caring about reducing emissions and meeting targets.

[World on course for catastrophic warming despite climate-fighting plans, UN warns](https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20251104-world-on-track-to-dangerous-warming-as-emissions-hit-record-high-un)

“Global emissions grew 2.3 percent in 2024 compared to the previous year, an increase driven by India followed by China, Russia and Indonesia.

Wealthy and powerful G20 economies accounted for three-quarters of global emissions and of the six largest polluters, the EU was the only one to cut greenhouse gases in 2024.

Either way, China is set to miss its target to cut carbon intensity – the CO2 emissions per unit of GDP – from 2020 to 2025, meaning steeper reductions are needed to hit the county’s 2030 goal.”
