Denmark welcomes peace talks to end the war in Ukraine, but stresses that this process must take into account Ukraine’s own position, Europe’s position, and the principles of international law, and must also lead to real peace and guarantee genuine security.

During a United Nations Security Council meeting on Thursday, Denmark’s deputy permanent representative to the Organization, Sandra Jensen Landi, articulated the following position.

Denmark’s Position on Peace and Security

«Denmark welcomes peace talks for Ukraine – talks that could lead to a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace. However, lasting peace is possible only with full respect for the principles of the UN Charter, Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence»

– Denmark’s deputy permanent representative to the Organization Sandra Jensen Landi

She stressed the need to achieve peace with reliable security guarantees so that this war cannot resume in the near term, as well as a peace that does not reward the aggressor.

The Danish representative reminded that several months ago Ukraine proposed an unconditional and comprehensive cease-fire.

«This genuine proposal remains in force, while Russia continues to offer only empty promises and continues attacks on the civilian population of Ukraine. We urge Russia to immediately accept the ceasefire proposal»

– Denmark’s deputy permanent representative to the Organization Sandra Jensen Landi

According to the UN, the number of civilian casualties in Ukraine from January to October 2025 has surpassed the corresponding figures for the entire previous year.

«Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine, nothing about European security without Europe»

– Denmark’s deputy permanent representative to the Organization Sandra Jensen Landi
