  1. Important points:

    * Benefits restricted only to British citizens, no longer allowed for ILR holders
    * Those who arrived on the Health and Care visa will need to wait 15 years for ILR
    * Skilled workers earning over £50k for the three years prior will get ILR in five years, those earning over £125k will get ILR in three years
    * Skilled workers earning under £50k will get ILR in 10 years
    * People working in the NHS will get ILR in five years
    * People whose spouse or parent is British citizen, along with BNO visa holders, will continue to get ILR in five years
    * The intention is that this will apply to people already in the UK but who have not yet received ILR

    Settlement acceptance criteria:

    >Firstly, the applicants must not have a criminal record.

    >Secondly, they must speak English to A level standard.

    >Thirdly, they must have made sustained national insurance contributions.

    >And finally they must have no debt in this country.

  2. This is good news and hopefully Labour will increase in the polls. Whether or not people want to admit it the immigration system in this country is a problem and needs to be brought under some level of control.

  3. This seems excellent and is way overdue.

Indefinite leave to remain and especially citizenship should never have been given away so easily.

  4. It’s a bit late now. The damage was done a lone time ago.

  5. This country relies on immigration so I don’t know how they’re going to balance that out and the need is only growing given how fucked the birthrate is. Boasting about the immigration system being the most difficult for migrants in all of Europe isn’t great advertisement for the kind of migrants this country needs badly

  6. I was not expecting a sensible immigration policy from Labour. Well done!

  7. Assuming they’re be retroactive with it too? Since it sounds like they’re aiming to catch the Boris wave.

  8. Too late, too late, will be the cry, when the man smoking tabs has passed you by

  9. Maybe they can also push for an overhaul of the UK Visas and Immigration website. Its honestly a nightmare to navigate, and uploading documents is such a ball ache. I get why people come on boats, its much easier.
