    * Following what both politicians called a “successful” private discussion, they took questions from the press, where Trump emphasized how impressed he was that he and Mamdani agreed on some major issues.

  6. I 100% expected this. Trump loves charismatic people more than anything else. It doesn’t matter how much they attack each other from afar. He is extremely easy to charm in person. He does the exact same thing when he’s around Obama.

  19. Honestly I’ll say Trump comes off better in this than usual but what is really gross is how media on both sides (but mostly conservative) keep trying to stoke division between them instead of celebrating an attempt at collaboration

  22. Fear of Mamdani’s socialism is overblown. For example, NYC’s income tax rate is less than 4%. Even if Mamdani is able to obtain a 50% increase, that would not be an excessive burden on affluent New Yorkers.

    Additionally, Mamdani is a reasonable person and has ample charisma. He seems honest and forthright. Compare that to Mayor Eric “Bribe in a Bag of Chips” Adams, and the distinction may have impressed Trump.

    This being reddit, many commenters see evil darkness behind every positive bit of news, still waiting for the 1960s “revolution” to fix the US’ problems. So knock yourselves out with negativity.

  23. Not surprised Mamdami ran against the status quo. He’s not parroting all the usual Democrat ideas and ways of doing things. That honestly hasn’t worked for decades. Mamdami came in with fresh new ideas. Trump ran supposedly for that same reason. It makes sense he may even be reminded why he wanted to run.

    Expect Trump to come out criticizing Mamdani once the sewer-rats of the rightwing media complex and MAGA cesspools throw various hissy fits. It should happen by tomorrow night or the end of the weekend at the latest.

  41. Mamdani is good looking and very personable. Two qualities that Trump loves. Easy to see how he got charmed.

  42. Trump still knows how to play the press and the media. He knows he’s not getting a lot of positive attention, including from outlets consistently glowing of him.

    Being magnanimous with the popular and charismatic mayor-elect of NYC get Trump some shine today. The media and the public will be saying nice things about him, which is what Trump craves more than Big Macs.

  43. The fact is, Conservatives have spent decades telling everyone that socialism is bad, but if you talk to them about what socialism can do to improve their lives they’re all for it. They’re just scared by the word “socialism”. In my experience with MAGA parents, they will often complain about something, suggest a solution, and wonder why no one thought of it. When I let them know that, yes it is a good idea and there are people who are working on it right now, they get all excited until they hear “Democrat” or “socialist”. They’re stuck in politics as team sports… Fascism is the socialism of fools. They can identify what the problems are, most have just been misled into who is to blame.
