In 2014, as a 12 year old, I stayed in Finland for a month and had makkarakeitto for the first and only time. I decided to make it again today and it brought back a lot of memories. Hope I get to go again someday.

I did overcook the potatoes so its more of like a stew lol still super tasty

  1. My Finnish wife introduced this to American me, and it’s now a favorite in our family.

  2. The best use for HKn sininen.

Siskonmakkarakeitto is a superior thing though.

  3. It’s a cool soup because it’s secretly at least three soups in one! Replace the sausages with browned ground beef and/or pork, and you get the jauhelihakeitto/ground meat soup, or you can do lihakeitto by using something like beef chuck (which, of course, you need to simmer far longer than the veg to get it tender). Hmm, in theory you could do all three types of protein. Or would it be madness…

  4. tbh it’s not finnish tradition food unless everything is overcooked to mush so that’s fine lol
