(ABC 6 News) — Senator Amy Klobuchar was halfway around the world Friday talking at the Vatican with Pope Leo XIV about efforts to return Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
Klobuchar was joined by four Ukrainian children taken during the war who have since been reunited with their families.
Ukraine has said more than 19,000 children have been taken while only 1800 have been returned.
“There have been facilitation including involving the Vatican to bring back a number of these kids but there are still so many that remain,” said Klobuchar.
Klobuchar also thanked Pope Leo for his comments and spiritual support for Minnesota after the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting.
