The (De)volution of Capitalism

  1. I think your articles go further and further into the realm of populism. This is exactly what the politicians that you complain about do. They use flashy catchwords, make opaque demands and draw an enemy that often does not even exist. Sadly, when they get to power and put their “ideas” into laws, they have the opposite effect of what they promise.

With such populist rethoric, concrete examples, numbers and constructive suggestions that might solve problems are usually scarce. This happens when the *fight* becomes more important than the *change*.

    Example:

deregulation — SMEs and self-employed benefit the most from deregulation. Large firms and the wealthy often benefit from more regulation because it keeps new competitors at bay. With money, you can hire lawyers that find loopholes and deal with the necessary paperwork. For a self-employed too much regulation can be a death knell.

AML laws are a good example where nothing really changed for the wealthy but normal people find it even difficult to open bank accounts or move relatively small amounts of money.

This too is a list that can be continued endlessly.
