Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Representatives from the embassies of Finland and Denmark met in Playa del Carmen to strengthen ties. Mayor Estefanía Mercado held a meeting with the diplomatic representatives Thursday.
She reported Friday that during her meeting with the ambassadors to Mexico, they agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in matters of security, responsible tourism and sustainable development.
She reiterated her commitment to international cooperation and the global projection of Playa del Carmen as a safe and reliable destination for the growing number of visitors from Nordic countries.
She stressed that tourist safety is an absolute priority for her administration, and emphasized that the municipality operates under international standards to guarantee the protection of both visitors and residents.
“We have almost 500 patrols, and the municipality is the safest in Quintana Roo. Playa del Carmen is building a comprehensive tourist security policy based on prevention, intelligence, and coordination with diplomatic corps.

“Every visitor should feel safe, accompanied,and protected. That is a responsibility we take very seriously,” she stated.
Estefanía Mercado pointed out that alliances like this strengthen the destination’s global standing.
“Tourism competitiveness also depends on our ability to connect with the world. This meeting with the Nordic nations represents a firm step towards proactive, modern and strategic municipal diplomacy.”
During the meeting, opportunities for collaboration were also discussed in areas such as innovation, investment, sustainable mobility, professional training, international promotion of the destination, the environment and academic exchange between Finland and Playa del Carmen.
Representing the visiting countries were the Ambassador of Finland, Ari Mäki, the Ambassador of Denmark, Kim Højlund Christensen and the Honorary Consul of Finland in Quintana Roo, Luisa Guzmán Carrasco.
