A walk among unique tree species combined with contemporary sculptural art — this is the experience offered by the open-air gallery located in the Kysihýbel Arboretum in Banská Štiavnica, central Slovakia. Over the past few years, more than 20 works created by both Slovak and international artists have been installed there.
Recently, new artworks were added during the fourth edition of the Vlnoobjekt workshop, the TASR newswire reported.
This year’s participating artists explored themes such as contemporary challenges, overstimulation, distorted facts, fears about the future and the urgency to act. In addition to new sculptures, several paintings were installed inside the arboretum’s glass building.
“The arboretum has gained several new large-scale wooden sculptures, and we have placed one of them in public space in the town as an artistic marker,” said Ľudovít Kaník of the OOCR Región Banská Štiavnica tourism organisation, as quoted by TASR.
A total of 12 artists took part in the workshop, organised by the tourism organisation in cooperation with the Vlnoplocha civic association. Participants included sculptors, painters and an intermedia artist.
Kysihýbel Arboretum was founded in 1900 and today features around 300 species of trees and shrubs from around the world.
It is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday between 9:00 and 16:00, but visits must be arranged in advance.
