Kota Sukabumi (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Migrant-Worker Protection Minister Mukhtarudin urged prospective workers to use the government’s microcredit program (KUR) to finance departures abroad, saying the facility remains underused despite sizable loan allocations.

According to a press statement from the Sukabumi City Communications and Information Office on Sunday, Mukhtarudin delivered the call during the inauguration of the Pasim Go Migrant Center in Sukabumi, West Java, according to the city’s Communications and Information Office.

He said prospective migrant workers, whether departing independently or through local governments and placement agencies, can access KUR loans of up to Rp100 million at a six percent interest rate.

Borrowers may repay the loans in installments using income earned after starting work overseas, he said.

Mukhtarudin noted that the 2025 KUR allocation totals Rp210 billion, but only Rp64 billion has been disbursed, leaving substantial capacity for additional lending.

He said mapping results show demand for about 290,000 overseas workers, while new applicants represent only around 20 percent of available opportunities.

Separately, Deputy Minister Christina Aryani met Bank Artha Graha Internasional’s board on Nov. 21 to discuss cooperation on migrant-worker KUR distribution.

She said the bank has long experience providing KUR for migrant workers, including in destinations such as Hong Kong and Taiwan, although lending was paused during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aryani said the 2026 KUR ceiling for migrant workers will reach Rp208 billion. Allocations include Rp25 billion through Bank Artha Graha, Rp25 billion through Bank Sinarmas, Rp45 billion through Bank Jawa Barat, and Rp100 billion through Bank Jakarta.

The meeting also reviewed administrative and technical steps needed before the migrant-worker KUR program is fully reactivated.
