‘I faced death and fled Kurdistan for a life in London now the fear I’ll be deported to Rwanda is shattering my hopes’

  1. What’s the problem if he’s a genuine refugee he just has to spend some time in the sun in a hotel? Try Germany next time if you want an unconditional entry.

  2. Well, why don’t you go to France or Belgium, or even Ireland. Surly that would make sense if you don’t want to go to Rwanda.

  3. The tories and their voting public, should each and every one hand their heads in SHAME upon reading this.

For not a single thing these ‘people’, would live a single second in these peoples bodies.

Thank god its not me so fuck you – at a minimal – describes the fucking lot of them.

  4. Out of all developed first World countries why UK? You could go anywhere else if that is what you are worried about.

Edit: I guess people took my comment wrong, I wasn’t trying to be racist or Britain is for British. My intention was only to point out there are other options as well, our immigration rules are shit and not helping most, but people who want to get a better life shouldn’t be discouraged and research other possibilities.

  5. If everyone ran away from their countries problems you’d have nobody left. The U.K. is land of milk and honey … could have gone anywhere else, but picked the U.K. because it’s full of wonderful free benefits. 4 and 5 star hotels for everyone!

  6. Why death?? Why London??

I don’t like the Rwanda scheme at all but if you have a legitimate reason to enter the UK then your visa will be granted.

I don’t mean to sound harsh but every single person more or less says they left because they were facing death back home.

There need to at least be acknowledgement that unfortunately if everyone comes with the same story. Not hard to see why it is met with raised eyebrows from time to time.

Anyway im sure ive written enough to make having slightly more conservative views towards immigration a cardinal sin.

  7. People do not understand what it is like to flee your home country and travel half way across the world to even have a chance of reaching safety. Many also seem to think that refugees get given a shitload of money and live a better life than most who were born here. It’s a lack of understanding and empathy, and a fear of a bogeyman stoked by the media that means people are happy to support such a policy.

  8. Just so everyone realises, the only difference between a refugee from Kurdistan and you and me is luck of the draw. It’s easy for you to say “why don’t you go somewhere else” when you are living relatively comfortably in a first world nation. Have an ounce of empathy

  9. A refugees ask for help should be answered regardless but the Ukraine response has showed that understanding more about a people and why they are fleeing can increase empathy. So a reminder that Kurds:

    1. Took the fight to ISIS and were critical (along with western military aid) in wiping them out
    2. We are all – including right here in the UK – safer because of their actions in preventing a terrorist state from being formed and a base for international terrorism being established
    3. Kurds are a largely secular and tolerant people, their forces did much to protect minorities, including Christian’s during the turmoil of ISIS
    4. The UK has a direct role in promising the Kurds their own state after the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire and then going back on that promise – since then, the Kurd’s live as minorities in countries such as Iran and Turkey that treat them badly as minorities.
