  1. More breeding and culture than a Petri dish right there.

  2. King Juan Carlos gets annoyed when Luis Alfonso uses the style (form of address) of *Royal Highness*. Jaime, Luis Alfonso’s grandfather, was an Infante of Spain, but his marriage was morganatic (he married the daughter of a French Viscount), so Alfonso (Luis Alfonso’s father) could not use any title or style.

Although in reality the title of Infante of Spain and the style of *Royal Highness* are reserved for the children of kings and the children of the Prince and Princess of Asturias, it is also possible to grant the title to the king’s grandchildren by means of a *Royal Decree*.

In 1972, Juan Carlos asked Francisco Franco to allow Alfonso to use the title of Duke of Cadiz with the treatment of *Royal Highness*. It was later revealed that Juan Carlos made this request to Franco to repay a “favor” that Alfonso had done for him. Juan Carlos asked Alfonso to persuade his father, Infante Jaime, to stop proclaiming himself King of Spain, and also to stop granting (selling) Spanish noble titles and Collars of the Golden Fleece in Paris (yes, the Infante Jaime felt like he was king of France and Spain 🤣).

In 1987, a new Royal Decree was passed to regulate all the noble titles that Francisco Franco had approved, and they automatically went from being hereditary titles to lifetime titles, which is why the title of Duke of Cádiz returned to the Crown when Alfonso died.
