Spanish pop star Rosalía has received huge praise for her new album, Lux. A Vatican official is the latest to commend the awe-inspiring album.

The new album features fifteen songs in thirteen different languages. Across the project, she provides thoughtful ruminations on her own spiritual journey.

The latest to highly praise the album is Xabier Gómez García, bishop of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, which encompasses Rosalía’s hometown of Sant Esteve Sesrovires near Barcelona. He wrote an open letter to his congregation praising the star.

Additionally, the diocese shared that he is aware that Rosalía’s grandmother is a regular attendee at mass in Sant Esteve Sesrovires. In an interview, as per the Independent, Bishop Gómez admitted that he knew some songs of hers were “provocative”.

However, he went on to stress that Rosalía “speaks with absolute freedom and without hang-ups about what she feels God to be, and the desire, the thirst (to know God).”

He continued, “When I listened to Lux and Rosalía speaking about her the context of her album and the creative process, I found myself faced with a process and a work that transcended the musical. Here was a spiritual search through the testimonies of women of immense spiritual maturity.”

Recently, the multi-lingual singer-songwriter opened up about meeting Horses legend Patti Smith. The ‘Berghain‘ singer shared with Radio host Nick Grimshaw that when she met Smith, “she had so much light in her face in her eyes in her smile and I couldn’t believe…”

She continued, “She just pointed out the dress. I remember she said, ‘I love your dress’. And then she talked to me about the song, and then we started sharing and it was one of the most beautiful things ever to meet her, because I really admire her.”

Rosalía then heaped further praise on the artistic spirit that Smith possesses, “She’s the best, she’s you know like so free and so… she inspires me so much.”

Writing in praise of Lux, Far Out wrote, “The blending of different genres and historical figures from a wide range of human epochs shows her range and her dedication to developing her art. The avant-garde pop star carried flamenco into mainstream music with her 2018 album El Mal Querer, and now, Pop’s first symphony will bring opera into the modern age.”
