A spokesperson for Usha Vance is clarifying the status of the second lady’s marriage after she was spotted without her wedding ring.
“[She is] a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes,” a rep for Vance, 39, told People in a Saturday, November 22, statement.
Usha has been married to United States vice president JD Vance since 2014, going on to welcome sons Ewan, 8, and Vivek, 5, as well as daughter Mirabel, 3.
Ever since JD, 41, announced his candidacy, serving as then-candidate Donald Trump’s 2024 running mate, Usha has remained steadfast by his side. As second lady, She recently visited military training facility Camp Lejeune in North Carolina earlier this week with first lady Melanie Trump. In photos from the outing, Usha was snapped without her wedding ring, leading to speculation about the state of her marriage.
Neither JD nor Usha have further addressed the rumors, which began in October after the politician raised eyebrows with comments about their interfaith relationship. (While JD is a practicing Catholic, Usha follows the Hindu faith.)
“Everybody has to come to their own arrangement here,” JD said during a Turning Point USA event held last month. “The way that we’ve come to our arrangement is that she’s my best friend. We talk to each other about this stuff. So, we’ve decided to raise our kids Christian. Most Sundays, Usha will come with me to church. Do I hope, eventually, that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was moved in by church? Yeah, honestly, I do wish that.”
Despite JD’s hopes that Usha might convert to his religion one day, he said he will remain unbothered if she chooses to not follow his lead.

“If she doesn’t, then God says everybody has free will and so that doesn’t cause a problem for me,” he stated. “That’s something you work out with your friends, with your family, with the person that you love. Again, one of the most important Christian principles is that you respect free will.”
Months earlier, Usha opened up about their family dynamics in a rare interview with Meghan McCain.
“I don’t think we would have gotten married if we didn’t both know that we were going to have kids,” Usha said on the “Citizen McCain” podcast in June. “We both independently were very interested in it, so that was never in question. By the time we were married, we knew we were going to have kids. The number, though, that was the question.”
She added, “I think what we had decided at the outset is, ‘We’ll have two, and then we’ll see how we feel after that.’ I thought, maybe, I would have two kids and would think I’m done, but I just liked having the two kids so much that I think I ended up being the driver for three.”
Usha further revealed that she and JD are set with their three children.
“I’m feeling pretty good about this, and sometimes he thinks he might like to have a fourth,” she admitted. “But, we’ll see where that leads. Never say never. We do really love having our three kids, but they’re at an age now where they’re a little bit more self-sufficient.”
