    The controversial 28-point plan dropped suddenly by the Trump administration to Ukraine as a take-it-or-leave it proposition mere days ago was mostly the result of several weeks of negotiations behind the scenes between Steve Witkoff and his Russian counterpart Kirill Dmitriev that excluded not only Ukraine and its allies but even some key US officials.

    Faced with a Thanksgiving holiday deadline, European officials are racing to buy Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy more time with their own counter-proposal on how to end the war that will be presented to US officials on Sunday in Switzerland.

    This reconstruction on how the ultimatum came about and who was really behind it is based on conversations with several people familiar with the deliberations who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss delicate negotiations.

  2. Reddit is mad about this Peace plan, but I’m not sure what the better alternative is.

    We need to accept certain realities:

    Ukraine intends to fight until its land is reclaimed or it can get security guarantees. However, it is unable to do both without greater western support than is currently being offered by western nations.

    It can’t reclaim the land, nor get security guarantees, without western countries sending their troops. And western countries simply don’t want to do this.

    So that leaves the options being settle for peace now under less than ideal terms, or play out a losing hand for all or nothing.

    If you are someone who doesn’t like this plan, I challenge you to come up with another plan that won’t have the western leaders who implement it voted out of office. The USA population is not going to escalate a proxy war with Russia into all out world war three, and neither are European nations.
