Government policy and statements
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper that authorities would adhere to a stricter migration policy and step up deportations of foreigners without lawful grounds to reside in Germany, in particular migrants from Syria and Afghanistan.
“This is about control, direction, and a clear stance in migration policy; this also applies to deportations. We will consistently continue this course and prepare for deportations to Syria and Afghanistan”
– Interior Ministry head
According to the data, Ukrainian asylum seekers who arrived in Germany after April 1, 2025 will receive the same assistance as other refugees, rather than the basic unemployment benefit provided to German citizens.
In summary, the data indicate a trend toward tightening migration policy in Germany and an increase in deportation practices, which could affect the migration landscape of Europe and neighboring countries.
