Brexit: Lorry drivers ‘need 700 pages of documents partly written in Latin’ to export UK goods to EU Red tape is far worse for British exports to the EU than to Northern Ireland, Marks & Spencer chief warns

  1. This is what many of the truckers voted for. They should be happy they are getting their democracy good and hard.

Just a shame the rest of us have to suffer for it.

  2. If only we could come together with other countries to form some sort of union of custom arrangements

  3. Do you think the “if only we could have seen this coming” comments are going to old any time soon?

    No, me neither.

  4. >Holding a vast pile of documentation given to him in despair by a road haulier, he complained that this was the kind of form-filling lorry drivers had to cope with to qualify for entry from Brexit Britain to Northern Ireland.

    >The minister seemed blissfully unaware that the bundle of bumf he was displaying was the consequence of his own government’s Brexit policies.

  5. Considering the headline, kinda disappointed about the lack of specifics around the Latin and the typefaces…

Sounds bad, but of course that’s the point… wonder if it actually *is* bad?

  6. “Partly written in Latin” sure does sounds more unreasonable and bureaucratic than “with their taxonomic moniker”

  7. Chickens have come home to roost to the surprise of no one who paid the slightest heed to experts that warned this would be a reality if we left the EU. Still, Leave won so they should get over it, they did know what they were voting for after all.

  8. It’s not ‘EU red tape’ its new regulations required due to the UK leaving the EU. if anything it’s ‘UK red tape’ french and german lorry drivers still dont need to do it, it only applies to UK drivers.

  9. An economic union that requires 700 pages of documents, some of which are written in latin to move goods into it from a trade partner with a very substantial FTA seems like it might be a bit shit…

  10. Marks and Spencers were hopeless supplying customers in France even before Brexit.

Maybe all this red tape will finally put them out of their misery.

  11. I’m not surprised by this. Most goods need their own documentation to show origin and compliance. Most trucks have anywhere from 50-5000 individual products when exporting goods overseas. If each product needs to be individually checked are we surprised at the bulk of paperwork?

Of course we aren’t. This was clearly going to happen. If you have to comply with a countries standards to export there, you’re going to have to prove you comply with their standards

  12. That’s unfortunate, some people can barely speak English…they won’t do too well with Latin, I suspect

  13. There’s nothing brits love more than something to moan about and a good long queue. Brexit is perfect.
