Polish monarchy VS Russian monarchy

  1. Yet “rokosz” and “demokracja szlachetna” is what ended up ruining Poland

  2. TBF, Polish monarchy made major missteps in the power it granted to the nobility (liberum veto being a particular one) – the resulting weakening of the country was what made it vulnerable to annexation by Austria, Prussia and Russia in the Partitions.

  3. It’s true. What’s with people downvoting it? We were surrounded by absolute monarchies and we chose the weakest form of governing our country possible at that time. And no it wasn’t even close to democracy as lower classess remained tied to their masters.

  4. That’s true, but I wouldn’t imply that this was an effort towards checks and balances or democratization. Conversely, it was an attempt to seize the power by interest groups, kinda like oligarchs. To me, Polish monarchy isn’t any better than Russian monarchy. Hell perhaps it’s even worse because Polish model was extremely inefficient and was one of the factors leading towards downfall of the state.

  5. Oh, nobles don’t like absolutism? Well, just bribe Voltaire to write some pseudointeligent bullshit and they will be fine.

  6. Hahahahahahahahahha reason for Polish monarchy developing the way it did was Russia, Germany and Austria paying off the nobles to sabotage the government, not some enlightened democracy

  7. Titan monarch: hippity hoppity your battery is now my property
