Hopefully ok to post seeing as he moved to London and influenced Reggae in the UK so heavily. My favourite JC moment is his appearance on Buzzcocks where Mark Lamarr respected him too damn much to insult him, and instead had him sing Many Rivers To Cross acapella at various points during the show, then awarded his team so many points each time that the other team had no chance of catching him.

  1. Many Rivers to Cross is an amazing song! R.I.P. Jimmy Cliff.

  2. The harder they come , literally last song I listened to before I got out my car this morning . RIP

  3. RIP

I didn’t really know much about him but I remember he did the end credits cover “I Can See Clearly Now” for Cool Runnings

  4. I saw him in concert around 10 years ago. He was incredible! My husband cried when Jimmy sang Many Rivers to Cross

  5. R.I.P legend.

Speaking of reggae legends on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, they had Dawn Penn in the identity line up. Phil Jupitus identified her immediately and just kept saying it over and over, so she didn’t have to go through the indignity of it all

  6. Glastonbury 2003 memories kicking in, such a wonderful voice

  7. What a loss for music. “Many Rivers to Cross” is a masterpiece that always hits hard, and “The Harder They Come” is an absolute classic. His influence, especially here in the UK, is just immeasurable. Rest in power, Jimmy.

  8. I have strong Mandela effect right now. I’m certain he died about 10 years ago.

  9. Has one of the most contagious smiles I’ve ever seen. RIP to a legend.

  10. Remember when he was on Never Mind the Buzzcocks. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Mark Lamarr look as happy as he did that episode.

  11. Vietnam is my favourite song of his. Such a pioneer. RIP Jimmy.

  12. >But I’d rather be a free man in my grave, than living as a puppet or a slave.
*–Jimmy Cliff ‘The harder they come’*

Jimmy Cliff always ‘got it’ in his lyrics. Genuine legend. RIP.
